An overview of the consequences states, particularly Massachusetts, would face if Congress fails to extend funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Federal authorization for CHIP expired on Sept. 30, 2017, which means many states may soon run out of funding. Massachusetts should have enough CHIP funds to continue benefits until early 2018. The report was released by the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation in partnership with the Health Law & Policy team at UMass Medical School. This report follows one produced by the Foundation and Center in June, The Importance of CHIP Reauthorization for Massachusetts.
