UMass Medical School experts will present on autism, oral health disparities in individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and supporting siblings of children with mental health needs at the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) annual conference Nov. 15-18 in Washington, D.C.
The theme of the conference is “Growing Leaders, Driving Change.” Presentations will include the Autism Insurance Resource Center at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Center, the State Autism Roadmap needs assessment, and how research conducted in the AUCD’s centers is being used in practice and in setting policies.

Outcomes Measurement in the Context of the UN Convention on Rights of People with Disabilities

The UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (CRPD) reflects an international consensus on the preservation of human and civil rights of individuals with disabilities. Monitoring the progress toward articles detailed in the CRPD can be accomplished using existing tools, such as the National Core Indicators (NCI). Researchers will present the areas in which NCI outcomes reflect the rights of the population with disabilities according to CRPD.

The Healthy People 2020 Roadmap for Massachusetts Children and Youth with ASC/DD: Understanding Needs and Measuring Outcomes

The State Autism Roadmap needs assessment addresses, and makes recommendations to, the state priority published in the 2013 Massachusetts Autism Commission report. The recommendations will help develop a comprehensive statewide approach to addressing the needs of Massachusetts children and youths with autism and developmental disorders by implementing consistent statewide data collection practices.
