1983

UMass Medical School begins supporting Massachusetts state agencies with the Department of Psychiatry providing clinical care at Worcester State Hospital

1988

Deliver HIV/AIDS education and clinical training opportunities for health care providers in New England (HRSA program)

1994

Begin to develop programming to support community health centers and agencies, including medical interpreter training and the creation of the Massachusetts Health Care Training Forum

1996

Provide clinical oversight for Massachusetts Medicaid (MassHealth) program

Formally establish health care financing, health policy and research areas of expertise

1997

Develop disability evaluation and determination program

The New England Newborn Screening Program joins UMass Medical School

1998

Establish drug utilization review program

1999

Commonwealth Medicine was formed

Support the community living concept by enabling individuals with disabilities to move from nursing homes into community-based settings or home

Provide health care services to prison inmates

2003

Create call center to support the Prescription Advantage program in Massachusetts

2004

Expand health care  nancing services to include third party liability, revenue operations and  financial compliance supports to Medicaid agencies

Provide accounts receivable and other billing functions on behalf of public hospitals

2005

Begin providing learning disability assessments as part of the disability determination process

2007

Launch the Academic and Health Policy Conference on Correctional Health

Establish Health Safety Net call center

Expand consulting services related to health law and economics

2009

Establish Work Without Limits program to connect people with disabilities to employment opportunities

Create vaccine reimbursement program to serve as billing intermediary between public health clinics, private health plans, Medicare, and Medicaid

2010

Expand long-term services and supports for people with acquired brain injuries and through the Money Follows the Person grant

2011

Collaborate with MassHealth on their dual eligibles demonstration project, One Care

Participate in the Massachusetts Patient-Centered Medical Home Initiative

Create the Autism Insurance Resource Center for consumers, providers, and employers

Expand community case management services to adult populations

Develop the “Work Without Limits B2B Network”— forums for business peers to connect, share, and inspire best practices around disability employment

2012

Provide cash assistance and access for the elderly and disabled through administration of the Massachusetts State Supplement Plan

Launch Academic Consortium on Criminal Justice Health

2013

Inaugurate the Raise the Bar Hire! Conference, promoting employment for people with disabilities seeking work

2015

Create “Jobs Without Limits,” a job board for people with disabilities seeking work in Massachusetts, and employers who are looking to hire them

Collaborate with state agencies to launch MassOptions, linking elders, the disabled, and caregivers to resources that enable independent living

2016

Establish the Southern New England Practice Transformation Network to help clinicians improve health outcomes for thousands of patients

2017

Establish Preadmission Screening and Residency Review services

Create Warren J. Ferguson Scholarship to honor contributions to criminal justice health

Launch disability determinations service for retirement systems

2018

Expand New England Newborn Screening program panel to include four new tests

2019

Lead the Worcester Trauma and Resilience Collaborative

Collaborate on the design of a Massachusetts demonstration model to improve the delivery of health services to individuals involved with the criminal justice system

2020

COVID-19 Response: Command Center management support in Massachusetts, Service model development, Translation services for COVID-19 information, and Virtual call center support

2021

UMass Medical School receives a gift of $175 million and changes name to UMass Chan Medical School

Launch the Center on Child Wellbeing & Trauma with the Massachusetts Office of the Child Advocate

Collaborate on the Roadmap for Behavioral Health Reform in Massachusetts

Partner on the development of Vaccine Corps initiative for the City of Worcester

2022

Create focused leadership role for diversity and inclusion

Lead the Nursing Council on Workforce Sustainability, a collaboration between the Massachusetts Healthcare Collaborative Nursing Task Force, UMass Chan Medical School, and the Massachusetts Executive Offices of Health and Human Services and Labor and Workforce Development.

As part of the UMass Chan system, we have been working with state and federal agencies and other health care organizations to help solve health care challenges since 1983. In partnership with the medical school and center, we evolve and expand our services and capabilities to meet the ever-changing needs of our clients.
