A Commonwealth Medicine, UMass Medical School disability determination expert will be at the AcademyHealth 2019 Annual Research Meeting, June 2 – 4, in Washington D.C., presenting research on how states differ in applying medical frailty as a qualifier for Medicaid benefits.
Peter Mosbach, PhD, physician advisor, will present a poster entitled: State Differences in the Application of Medical Frailty Under the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid Work Requirements. Mosbach co-authored the poster with Sherry Campanelli, MPA, manager, program compliance and appeals. It will be presented from 1:15-2:45 p.m. on Monday, June 3 during Poster Session C, which focuses on the category of Coverage, Access and Medicaid.
Mosbach will join more than 3,000 of the nation’s leaders in health care at AcademyHealth, where they will share innovative education programs, community projects and research designed to transform health care delivery systems in a challenging and rapidly changing landscape.
In their research, Mosbach and Campanelli examined substantial differences in how states assess medical frailty and apply work requirements in their approach to expanding Medicaid benefits under the Affordable Care Act. The state-to-state variation in results will guide policy makers in states that have not yet implemented Medicaid expansion, helping design programs that assure access to services for persons with high medical need.
Mosbach and Campanelli are part of Commonwealth Medicine’s Clinical Delivery Solutions team. They offer disability determination services to states, municipalities, and public retirement systems.
