The Health and Criminal Justice Program is featured as part of the Association of American Medical Colleges’ (AAMC) “Health Equity Research Virtual Site Visit,” a new resource that shares the health equity research of AAMC-member institutions. AAMC chose UMass Medical School to be the first institution highlighted.
The AAMC Virtual Site Visit features a video, presentations and journal articles that showcase the research, education and consulting work of The Health and Criminal Justice Program, a part of UMass Medical School’s Commonwealth Medicine division. The program manages contracts that provide health services to the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ federal medical centers in Devens, Mass. and Butner, N.C., as well as its federal correctional institutions in Ray Brook, New York and Berlin, N.H. It also runs the annual Academic Consortium on Criminal Justice Health. The next conference is scheduled for March 19-20, 2015 in Boston.
Faculty and staff in the Department of Quantitative Health Sciences and the Center for Health Equity Intervention Research led the development of the AMC Virtual Site Visit, which also features the cutting edge research and innovative care delivery of the Center for Health Equity Intervention Research; the Population Health Clerkship; and the Simulation-based Community-engaged Research Intervention for Informed Consent.
The AAMC, a not-for-profit that serves more than 150 accredited medical schools in the United States and Canada, plans to work with up to three member institutions annually to develop content for the Health Equity Research Virtual Site Visit.
