Dr. Warren Ferguson to speak about prison health and primary care at Harvard Medical School symposium

Warren Ferguson, MD, a correctional health expert at UMass Medical School, will speak about prison health and primary care during a Harvard Medical School symposium in Boston Friday, Nov. 14.

Dr. Ferguson is scheduled to speak at 2 p.m. as part of the Symposium on Mass Incarceration and Health: Advocacy in Medicine and Beyond presented by Harvard’s Center for Primary Care Student Leadership Committee.

Ferguson is director of academic programs for the Health and Criminal Justice Program within UMass Medical School’s Commonwealth Medicine division. The program focuses on research and scholarship; education; and service and consulting. It manages contracts for health services at the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ Federal Medical Centers in Devens, Mass., and Butner, N.C., along with its Federal Correctional Institutions in Ray Brook, N.Y., and Berlin, N.H.

The program also runs the annual Academic Consortium on Criminal Justice Health, which has a conference scheduled for March 19-20, 2015, in Boston.
