UMass Medical School clinical pharmacists will discuss the management of Hepatitis C medication at the 20th Annual Drug Benefit Conference sponsored by the Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute March 2-4 at the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter hotel in San Antonio, Texas.
Kimberly Lenz, PharmD, clinical pharmacy manager, and Paul L. Jeffrey, PharmD, director of pharmacy, Office of Clinical Affairs, UMass Medical School’s Commonwealth Medicine division, will present “Hepatitis C Medication Management – Just the Tip of the Specialty Iceberg,” from 11 a.m. to noon March 4.
About 3.2 million people in the U.S. have Hepatitis C and 75 percent have not been diagnosed. Lenz and Jeffrey’s presentation makes recommendations for the management of Hepatitis C medications, including the need for a highly skilled team with cooperation at all levels. They suggest being transparent and tracking outcomes, adding that the recommendations could be used in the management of other complex diseases.
PBMI hosts the annual conference to advance best practices for managing drug benefit programs.
