Leaders of UMass Medical School’s Disability and Community Services division will discuss how to design complex care management and better coordinate care at the World Congress “Managing Long Term Support Services for Complex Populations” conference Oct. 24-25 at Westin Tyson’s Corner in Falls Church, Virginia.
Karen Williams, MSW, senior director, will co-deliver, “Understand the Critical Elements of a Complex Care Management Model Design” at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 25. She will discuss strategies for modifying current programs to withstand changing population, organizational, and environmental needs when staff and resources vary widely.
In her role at UMass Medical, Williams spearheads operations and program development for long-term services and support clinical activities. She works with state health and human services agencies to oversee clinical eligibility, Medicaid prior authorization, complex care coordination, and provider network development and administration. She has also developed cutting-edge solutions for public clients’ complex operational and policy challenges.
Jessica Carpenter, MS, RD, LDN, director, will focus on the strategies required to deliver patient-centric, quality care for individuals with complex care needs in her session at 2 p.m. Oct. 25, “Implement Strategies to Better Coordinate Care Across Multiple Providers.” She and her co-presenter will explain why successful coordination and management requires networking with multiple care providers and linking each intervention to the individual’s overall care.
Carpenter directs long-term services and supports business operations, including prior authorization, case management and appeals. She also leads process improvement initiatives, stakeholder relations, and develops workgroups to create and maintain efficiencies. In addition, Carpenter provides subject matter expertise to state agency staff, including supporting policy assessment, regulatory and clinical guideline development, and program reconfiguration activities.
UMass Medical School’s Jocelyn Gordon, JD, MS, director, national development, will chair the second day of conference, Oct. 25. She directs business development and policy initiatives for long-term services and supports.
