1. Jorge Sanchez Jr. receives Chancellor’s Award for diversity at annual Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. tribute

2. The Massachusetts Pharmacists Association honors UMass Medical School pharmacist for prescription drug abuse prevention efforts

The Massachusetts Pharmacists Association (MPhA) bestows UMass Medical School pharmacy leader Kimberly Lenz, PharmD, with the Cardinal Health Generation Rx Champions Award Sept. 14 for her efforts to combat prescription drug abuse.

3. UMass Medical School announces Warren J. Ferguson Scholarship to honor correctional health leader

UMass Medical School has created the Warren J. Ferguson Scholarship to honor its namesake’s contributions to the field of criminal justice health. The scholarship was announced March 16 at the Academic & Health Policy Conference on Correctional Health, which Dr. Ferguson co-founded 10 years ago.

4. World renowned autism advocate Temple Grandin to keynote 2017 Work Without Limits conference

Temple Grandin, PhD, one of the most accomplished autism advocates in the world, delivers the keynote address at the Work Without Limits Raise the Bar Hire! conference Oct. 5. UMass Medical School’s Work Without Limits is a statewide network of engaged employers and innovative, collaborative partners that aims to increase employment among individuals with disabilities.

5. The American Health Care Act and State Health Policy

The impact on health policy of the American Health Care Act (AHCA), passed by the House of Representatives on May 4, is outlined in a blog by our Rachel Gershon, JD, MPH, of the Center for Health Law and Economics. The AHCA was ultimately unsuccessful.

6. “Medicare for All” potential model for single-payer health care, UMass Medical School expert says

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ version of single-payer health care is explained by Katharine London, MS, of our Center for Health Law and Economics. London led the team that developed the Vermont single-payer financing model.

7. The MassHealth Waiver 2016–2022: Delivering Reform
