When we help children stay healthy, we also affect behavioral, educational and economic outcomes. That’s real impact and value. To get there we must update pediatric primary care payment methods. A series of three summer webinars sponsored by the Child Health and Development Institute of Connecticut (CHDI) and designed by Commonwealth Medicine health policy experts will help set the stage for that transformation.
Inspired by a 2018 report co-authored by Commonwealth Medicine health policy experts, the webinars are intended to create a forum to share information and advance problem solving among child health policy supporters and advocates.

In 2018, CHDI and the Connecticut Health Foundation (CHF) convened a multi-stakeholder study group to consider payment methods that could transform pediatric primary care to better promote lifelong health and well-being and overall population health. Commonwealth Medicine expert, Hilary Deignan, senior policy analyst, Health Law & Policy, and former Commonwealth Medicine expert, Robert Seifert, co-authored the study group’s report. Published in February 2019, Transforming Pediatrics to Support Population Health: Recommendations for Practice Changes and How to Pay for Them, includes a set of recommendations from the study group.
Seifert and Deignan led the development of the pediatric payment reform webinar series based on the report recommendations. The webinars are sponsored by CHDI and made possible by funding from the Connecticut Health Foundation and Children’s Fund of Connecticut.
