Commonwealth Medicine (CWM) is pleased to welcome Catherine “Katie” Mick, MSW, MBA, as the new chief of staff under the direction of Executive Vice Chancellor Lisa M. Colombo, DNP, MHA, RN and in collaboration with Deputy Executive Vice Chancellor for Operations Patti Onorato, RN, MS, APN.
Mick joins CWM from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS), where she held vital roles in leadership, policy development, administration, and financial management over many years of service to the Secretariat, its agencies, and mission.
“I look forward to Katie’s insights as we navigate the changes in our post-pandemic world,” said Colombo. “As chief of staff, she will apply her strategic and operational innovation skills as she advises the leadership team on policy, procedural, functional, and business activities that span our organization. Her engaging, empathetic, and big picture approach will greatly contribute and support Commonwealth Medicine’s continued growth and vision for the future.”
Most recently, Mick was EOHHS undersecretary for human services, effectively driving strategic policy initiatives across multiple public and private agencies by promoting interdependency and collaboration, particularly during the COVID-19 crisis and its impact on the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable citizens and essential, front-line workers.
“I am thrilled to join an organization whose mission aligns so strongly with my work over the past several years,” said Mick. “I have long admired Commonwealth Medicine’s innovative approach to operations and creating solutions to the most difficult health care challenges.”
Mick’s prior roles also include chief operating officer at Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children, a pediatric chronic-care hospital operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
Additionally, she worked as an independent consultant, providing operations/business model analysis and training to Massachusetts human services agencies and their community partners.
She developed and taught master’s level courses as a faculty member of the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work and is Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certified.
Mick earned master’s degrees in business administration and social work from Boston College and a bachelor’s degree in art history from the College of the Holy Cross.
