The smoking population within Medicaid is over double that of the privately insured population. In an attempt to quell smoking habits, MassHealth began to cover tobacco cessation treatment in 2006.
This article shares the results of two surveys done in 2008 and 2014 to see what the effects of the 2006 change to MassHealth was on the smoking population. Population surveys were held over the phone and found a significant decrease in the amount of members that reported smoking “every/some days” from 2008 to 2014.
