As chief of staff for Commonwealth Medicine, Catherine “Katie” Mick applies her strategic and operational innovation skills as an advisor to the leadership team, providing guidance on policy, procedural, functional, and business activities that strengthen and build client relationships and support organizational growth.
Before joining Commonwealth Medicine, Mick held vital roles in leadership, policy development, administration, and financial management during a multifaceted and extensive career at the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS). Most recently, she was EOHHS undersecretary for human services, effectively driving strategic policy initiatives across multiple agencies by promoting interdependency and collaboration, particularly during the COVID-19 crisis and its impact on the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable citizens and essential, front-line workers.
Throughout her career, Mick has been stalwart in supporting individuals with disabilities, children, youth, and families, survivors of human trafficking, sexual assault, and domestic violence – and cross-sector initiatives involving early education, public safety, and sustained economic stability. Previously, she was chief operating officer at Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children, a pediatric chronic-care hospital operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Additionally, she worked as an independent consultant, providing operations/business model analysis and training to Massachusetts human services agencies and their community partners.
Mick developed and taught master’s level courses as a faculty member of the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work and is a Lean Six Sigma certified green belt.
She earned master’s degrees in business administration and social work from Boston College and a bachelor’s degree in art history from the College of the Holy Cross.
