Alexis D. Henry, ScD, OTR/L, a disability employment policy expert at UMass Medical School, will receive the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association’s prestigious Armin Loeb Award during the 2016 Recovery Workforce Summit in Boston May 22-25.
The Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association is recognizing Henry with one of its awards of distinction for exemplary leadership in psychiatric rehabilitation. Henry is director of the Disability, Health and Employment Policy Unit within UMass Medical School’s Commonwealth Medicine division, and an associate professor of psychiatry at UMass Medical School.
Henry’s unit operates Work Without Limits, a statewide network of employers and partners established in 2008 to increase the employment of individuals with disabilities. The initiative includes Jobs without Limits, a job board for people with disabilities who are seeking employment.
Henry has written or co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, books and chapters of books, and has presented at national conferences on disability employment and long-term services and supports.
The Armin Loeb Award recognizes an individual who has conducted the best-designed and most useful research, including integration of research literature, clinical research, evaluative research or applied research, in psychiatric rehabilitation. The award was established in memory of Dr. Armin Loeb, who was director of research at Horizon House in Philadelphia for about 20 years and the first full-time research director at a psychiatric rehabilitation agency. His research and evaluation studies have served as models in the field.
